1740 - Isham Gunter born in Virginia

1759 - Susannah Gunter born, daugther of Isham.

1759 - May 3 - Thomas COCKE "of Cumberland County" sold 162 acres of land in Brunswick Co., VA, to John GUNTER, Jr., beg. at mouth of Rocky Run & adj. lands of DAVID, Wm. MATTHIS, & Nottoway River; wits. William COCKE, Robt. CHEEKS, & Richd. GUNTER (Brunswick DB 6, p.353).

1760 - Benjamin Gunter born, son of Isham.

1765 - June 18 - Rebecca Gunter born, daugther of Isham.

1766 - 24 Nov - James Love Jr. purchased 174 acres (8-389, Brunswick VA) from John Gunter Sr. of Orange County NC. Situated on the north side of Red Oak Run in Brunswick County, the land adjoined that owned by Cawley, Fry, and Manning.

1770 - Richard Gunter born, son of Isham.

1771 - Isham Gunter Jr born, son of Isham.

1771 - Chatham County was carved out of Orange County and the first county courthouse was built just south of what would become Pittsboro.

1771 - May 16, 1771 - Richard Gunter fought in the battle of Alamance with the Chatham County, North Carolina: Regimental Return commanded by Capt. Stephen Poe. Jousha Gunter is also listed as being a Corp'l.

1771 - ABSTRACTED DEEDS IN CHATHAM COUNTY pg. 20, Aug. 5, 1771 - REUBIN PETTY and WINNY, his wife, to RICHARD GUNTER, 100 acres of the land that Petty received as a grant from Lord Granville , S. of Haw River. The land included the "plantation that Petty now lives on".

1773 - May 4 - Isham Gunter Bill of Sale, recorded Chatham Co, NC Deed Book A, Pg 354 & 355. A Robert Dunkin (Duncan?) sold several items including "one improvement of land whereon I now live" (no description of land) to Isham for 30 pounds proclamation money. Proved by Wm Johnston per Pg 19 of Chatham Co, NC Minutes, 9 AUG 1774.

1774 - 10 May 1774 - The following hands work on the road that leads from the Court house to the Seven Islands*, under John Gunter Senr. Overseer Viz: Mial Scurlock, Agnis Harrington, Drewery Harrington, James Steward, Senr, Mary Petty, John Petty, Richard Gunter, Joshua Gunter, Benjamin Bishop, Robert Rutherford & Benjamin Bullington.

1774 - Oct. 26, 1774 - Richard Gunter and Elizabeth his wife, sell to Robert Patterson, for 110 pds, 100 acres on S. side of Haw River, including the plantation the said Gunter now lives on. Wit: James Patterson, Even (x) Thomas, John (x) Gunter Sr.

1775 - The Will of John Morton dec'd proved by the Oath of Prettyman Berry (Pritteman), John Gunter Sen'r and Richard Gunter the Exors. were Qualified.GUNTER - Deed Bk. A, 1771-1782 pg. 450, Feb. 7, 1775

1775 - John Gunter Jr. and Richard Gunter Executors of the Last Will and Testament of John Morton, dec'd, sell to William Poe, for 20 pds, 7 shillings, 22 acres on the S. side of Poe's Creek, being a piece of land left by John Morton dec'd to be sold by his Executors. John Gunter, Richard Gunter Wit: None, Proved in open court by George Herndon and ordered to P. 450, 7 February

1777 - October 22, Entry Taker John Ramsey to surveyor D.S. Rutherford to survey 100 acres of land for Isham Gunter on South side of Robinson's Creek in Chatham Co, NC. Grant #507

1777 - Willis Gunter born. Son of Isham & Hester.

1778 - Isham Gunter appears Pg 131 of Chatham County Court Minutes of 12 FEB 1778.
Heserved as Juror in trial of Jesse Daniel who was found guilty of pettylarceny.

1778 - A second Warrant #143, dated 30 SEP 1778, was issued by Entry Taker John Ramsey to Surveyor J.T. Rutherford to survey 300 acres of land both sides of Stinking Creek in Chatham County, NC. (The actual plot surveyed was only 277 acres?). Grant #85 issued 1 JUL 1779 in support of this Warrant. See Chatham Co, NC Deed Book B, Pg 342.

1778 - A third Warrant #255, dated 19 DEC 1778 & Grant #183 issued 31 MAR 1780 for 400 acres both sides of Stinking Creek in Chatham Co, NC. See Chatham Co, NC Deed Book B Pg 545.
1779 - Chatham Co, NC Deeds 1770-1782 (Laird & Jackson) P342- 1 JUL 1779 deed of 275 acres by State of North Carolina to Isham Gunter, both sides of Stinking Creek.

1780 - Francis Asbury, Methodist circuit riding preacher, preached in Chatham county between Rocky &Deep Rivers. This area would later be called the Asbury Community, named after him.

1780 - April 1780 State of North Carolina to Isham Gunter, 100 acres on South Side of Robinsons Creek.

1780 - Benjamin Gunter fought at the Battle of Camden where General Gates was defeated on August 16.

1781 - Benjamin Gunter fought at the Battle of Lindley's Mill in Alamance County. Sept., 12-14

1783 - Aug 9 - Chatham Co, NC Deeds 1783-1786, Deed Book C, p335 (Laird & Jackson) Isham Gunter and Hester his wife to William Sanders...2 tracts...on both sides of Robinsons Creek...400 acres. Also on South side of Robinsons Creek-joins George Herndon - 100a. Thees Land Grants #507 & 183 (Total 500 Acres) were contiguous parcels and sold by Isham & his wife Hester, to William Sanders on 9 AUG 1783. Witnesses were Zack. Harmon & John Sanders. Ref Register of Orange Co, NC Deeds 1752-1768 & 1793; Deed Book C p.335.

1784 - Mary Gunter was born in CHATHAM COUNTY, NC. Daughter of Isham & Hester. She married James Marks.

1787 - January 6 - the North Carolina General Assembly authorized nine commissioners to purchase one hundred acres and the Town of Pittsborough was formed as the seat of Chatham County . The town was named for William Pitt the Younger, second son of the Earl of Chatham who had long defended American rights in the British Parliament.

1802 - John Wesley Gunter Sr is born in Chatham County.

1805 - Elisha Gunter is born December 6, 1805.

1808 - Dec 10 - Inventory and account of Sales of Estate of Benjamin Gunter, decd. Buyers (include) Benjamin G. Gunter, Joseph Gunter, Elizabeth Gunter, the widow, Elizabeth Gunter, Junr. William Marks, Isham Gunter, Jesse Bryant, William Marks, David Poe, John Lasater.

1809 - Elizabeth "Betsy" Williams birth. She was the daugther of John Williams, and
later married John Wesley Gunter Sr.

1809 - Benjamin Gunter is app't overseer of the road the ensuing year from DEEP RIVER at RAMSEY’S MILL to STINKING CREEK in the road of Archibald Hunt.

1813 - NOV - Willis Gunter is Appt’d overseer of the road from ROBERSONS CREEK to STINKING CREEK in the place of Peterson Yarbrough and the following hands (included) William Poe.

1815 - Asbury Medodist Church was founded, when the Deep River Circuit was organized.

1822 - Monday 12th August - Mial Maddox app’d overseer of the road to Ramsey’s Mill (today is known as Lockville dam) on Deep River to Stinking Creek, in the place of Benjamin Gunter Jr. with usual hands.

1822 - Monday 11th November - Asa Gunter appointed overseer of the road from Roberson Creek to Stinking Creek in place of Richard Bright, usual hands to work under him.

1823 - 21 March - Account of Sales of estate of Abner Gunter decd. Names: (includes) Tyrell Gunter, Chrispin Straughan, John Gunter, Joseph Sanders, William George, James Sanders, Sally Gunter, the widow, Winship Bryan, John Holoman (Holiman?), John Neal, Abner Gunter, James Petty, Joseph Scurlock, Gibson Mainard, John Womble*, Robert Bright.

1825 - 13th FEB - David Poe is APPTD of the road from DEEP RIVER at BOYHANS MILL to STINKING CREEK in the place of Benjamin Gunter and the usual hands work under him.

1825 - 12 March - Sale of estate of Samuel Gunter decd 12 March 1825. Names: Terrel Gunter, Chrispin Straughan, Jordan Davis, John Bright, Jordan Davis, Joseph Sanders, William George, Richard Bright, James Williams, James Saunders, Sally Gunter, Winship Bryant, John Holloman, John Neal, Abram Gunter, James Petty, Gibson Mainard, John Womble, Robert Bright.Richard Gunter, administrator

1825 - John Wesley Gunter Sr and Elizabeth "Betsy" Williams marraige.

1829 - Oren Green Gunter birth, son of John W Gunter, Sr.

1831 - Richard Gunter death. Will of Richard Gunter of Chatham Co - Written on 27 Oct 1829 to wife Elizabeth my plantation and slaves son Terrel Gunter, plantation on Haw River where I live, negro boys Oliver & Peter one fourth of remainder of my estate that the said Terril Gunter pay to my four grandchildren Bennet, Elizabeth, Elijah and Charity HOLOMON, $200 son John Gunter, plantation on stinking Creek, and two boys Nelson and Isaac John Gunter to pay to my three grandchildren William, Richard, and James Gunter $200 appoint Lasater & Abner Gunter executors.

1833 - Elisha Gunter marriage to Mary Burns, August 21. Bondsman John W. Gunter & Nathan A. Stedman

1834 - Isham Gunter died on June 16.

1835 - July 4 - Delilah Gunter born, daugther of John W Gunter, Sr.

1836 - April 28 - John W Gunter Sr buys 50 acres of land from Willis Gunter on Stinking Creek for $50. Elisha Gunter is a witness, and Nathan A Steadman wrote the document.

1839 - Sally Gunter born, daugther of John W Gunter, Sr.

1844 - Jan. 18 - John Wesley Gunter Jr birth date, Chatham County

1847 - Dec. 17 - Martisha Williams born, daugther of William J. and Empira (Tyson) Williams.

1855 - May 19 - Willis Gunter will written leaving all of his property to Emily Gunter, wife of his son Alandson Gunter. At the 21st birthday of Emily's son Napolean B Gunter the property shall go to him and his hiers forever. His land consisted of 90 acres lying upon the waters of Stinking creek. No mention is made of John Wesley or Elisha in the will.

1855 - Willis Gunter death.

1855 - John W Gunter sells 50 acres on Stinking Creek to Norman Milton.

1857 - Sept. 5, Sally Gunter married Mac Dickens (Oren Gunter bond).

1858 - John Wesley Gunter Sr. death, buried in Gunter cemetery 3 down near the fork of Rocky & Deep rivers.

1862 - Jan. 8 - Oren Gunter married Sarah Davis of Wake County.

1863 - March 27 - John W Gunter Jr enlisted in Lenoir County for the Catham Rangers Calvary Company G. This was the same unit that his brother Oren was in.

1864 - May 1 - John W Gunter Jr discharged from Calvary unit.

1864 - May 13 - Oren Gunter admitted to General Hospital #9 in Richmond with severe gunshot wound that happened during the battle of Yellow Tavern.

1864 - June 3 - Oren Gunter admitted to a hospital in Farmville, Va.

1864 - July 30 - Oren Gunter death from gunshot wound suffered in the War between the States.

1865 - March 24 - John W Gunter Jr married Martisha Williams (John A. Williams, bond, no wit.)

1869 - August 4 - Oren Jackson Gunter born, son of John W & Martisha Gunter.

1871 - Dec. 30 - Joseph Edward Gunter born, son of John W & Martisha Gunter.

1875 - July 15 - Lorah Gunter death. She is buried at Asbury UMC.

1884 - John W. Gunter and Leroy Pattishall traded their home and land to each other so that John could be near his mother "Elizabeth Gunter".
